A Principal Consultant in my shoes, by Mark Caine

Triad Principal Consultant Mark Caine talks about everything from superpowers to watching his Dad on the shop floor.

How would you describe your role?

There are many different elements to my role. The main ones are; delivering and maintaining service excellence from Triad to its Clients, building high performing collaborative teams and driving the continuing development and evolvement of the Delivery Management Community of Practice.

What do you most enjoy about your role?

The most satisfaction and enjoyment comes from building client relationships and adding value to our services. This goes hand in hand with building the Triad teams on the ground and ensuring the consultants have the best experience working with the client and Triad. It is important that the consultants have the support, guidance, and motivation to make them excel and reach their full potential.

Also, working for Triad, you get to work on various projects and clients. You have to adapt every time, employing new skillsets or adapting to new ways of working whilst at the same time implementing the Triad consultative mindset and best practice. It’s a challenge!

Triad’s goal is to transform through technology. Since working for Triad, how have you helped improve people’s lives through technology?

By delivering projects and managing teams for the Metropolitan Police and the Ministry of Justice, I have implemented systems and solutions using the latest technologies to make a real difference in crime prevention and saving lives. Working in this arena with some truly inspiring people has been a privilege. I am proud of the part I have played and proud of Triad, who continue to help make the UK a safer place.

What’s your superpower?

I can move objects with my mind. I am only joking! If I have a superpower, it’s probably my ability to bring people together to feel part of a team, motivating and encouraging them to achieve their potential.

Marketing spin aside, what do you think makes Triad different from other IT Consultancies?

I have worked for many companies in my career. What stands out for me is Triad’s ethos which has remained unchanged. This has many facets, from the personability, honesty, trust and professionalism of the consultants to the one team approach you feel working for the company. The consultants receive support, guidance, and motivation from the senior management team, including the Managing Director, Adrian Leer, who is always available and present.

Do you have a role model? And if, so, how have they influenced you?

I have had several. The most influential role models were my parents. My father was a works manager at an engineering company. He bridged the gap between the shop floor and the board room, which was very challenging at times.  He could get the best out of people with empathy, motivation, and a great sense of humour. To this day, I remember as a young boy, the respect and affection of the staff when he showed me around the factory.  My mother changed her career late in life to specialise in alternative therapy. She showed true grit and determination to overcome her lack of confidence and self-belief.  As a result, she ended up helping many people in the process and instilled the value to ‘keep trying’.

What has changed the most in the IT industry during your Career?

The biggest change is how technology is now a part of everyday life. It is so accessible. When I first started, PCs and mobile phones were coming in and were mainly used by businesses because they were so expensive.

We now live in a connected world with information readily available. This has brought massive benefits from both a social aspect and for business.  With the emergence of AI, we are entering a new era, and it’s impossible to know how that will truly impact the world.
